Best. Day. Ever.

Snow. It's something that a lot of people have to deal with on a regular basis and, for most, it's just not a big deal. But here in beautiful, balmy, sun-kissed London, it's not something we see a lot of - our last significantly heavy snowfall was 18 years ago, Fact Fans. Sure, we get the occasional light dusting underfoot which is barely noticeable (and yet sufficient to entirely halt all public transport) but, in general, snow is SWOPH (Something What Other People Have).

But not this week. Oh no. All day Sunday and Monday, a steady fall of white gold from the sky transformed grey old London in a gleamingly bright winter wonderland and, for a city of dyed-in-the-wools whiners, complainers and curmudgeons, it was enough to stir that inner 6 year old within us all to then spent the day screaming, "SNOOOOOOOOOOOW!".
So not only was the day brilliantly snow-covered but it was also my day off for being in the office rather late on Sunday. This, combined with the fact that the Bro and Mrs Bro were unable to reach work and in conjunction with the fact that we live ridiculously close to Greenwich Park, made for a day of fun and frolics. And here's the proof....

Impromptu Sled Of Doom

Myself and Mrs Bro there, demonstrating our makeshift sled which Mrs Bro found abandoned - an old one-way sign with the arrow rubbed off. It had straps to hold on to and everything. There was only one thing for it - head for the nearest hill and test it out...

So what did we learn on our snow day?

1. Found road signs make brilliant sleds.
2. Dogs like to chase bald men going very fast down a hill on a found road sign.
3. If someone goes very quite and drops behind, a snowball is imminent...
4. Pubs on a snowy day are even better than usual (I know it doesn't seem possible but it's true).
5. Snow is the most entertaining of all weather patterns.

So, same again in 18 years time, then?

SO. JEALOUS.

My roomie informed me yesterday that ya'll are getting pounded with the white frozen goodness (her BF resides in jolly ol' England), while here in Colorado, where snow *should* be falling (it is winter, after all), we're experiencing balmy, spring weather... which I do enjoy, but in April, where it belongs!

Stupid global warming. Hmph.

I have heard stories of this "snow", but I always thought it was a myth. (We DO get white ash from the forest fires here in southern CA. Does that count?)

Nice form on the descent!

My friend, it appears that my late night sacrifices to the Goddess of Weather has paid off! Yes, yes, my gift to you, I felt that 18 years was a bit too long for our kith and kin in the UK.

Enjoy! (and good riddance, I didn't have to shovel the bloddy stuff. Score!)

You Londoners. C'mon up to Scotland and I'll show you snow.

You guys look like you had a blast, wish I'd got a shot of the traffic sign sled!

Hugs

J-Diggety - Hurrah, we stole Colorado's snow! Weather thievery, it's all the rage...

Vic - We only usually know it as "that light dusting of a sugear-like substance that somehow stops trains". It's been a novelty.

IG - Always thinking of the poor, snowless fellows, sir. Keep up the sacrificing. If you could pencil me in for a lottery win next time around, that would be magic darts.

Anna The Russell - Well, I know you'd have been out there in the bikini but it's a novelty to us. White stuff from the sky! It's the End Times! Everyone to the park!

It was the most fun I've had in a long time. I felt like such a big kid. Even more so than usual.

Seriously dude, that's nothing. We get white shit falling down from the sky that goes over telephone pools in snow drifts. You'd die after spending one winter over here.

I think my head would explode at the possibility of that much snow. And I quite like my head. So that would be bad.

Thank you for the out loud chuckles! I went sledding today as well, and took the Baldy approach.

Thanks, Diane! Baldy technique is the only technique there is...well, unless you count people who are good at it...

Where was your snowman Baldy? Ours was awesome, unfortuntely his head fell off this morning though.
We used my tea tray to sled on. Small but effective..

I skipped that bit at the start of the day - Bro and Mrs Bro made one. I went straight to sledding / snowballing / snow-angelling / drinking...

Yeah, there were a few tea trays out there as well as tupperware lids, bin bags, estate agent signs and one or two frighteningly organised people who had actual wooden sleds. They live in London - why on earth have they got sleds???
