Wrapped In Plastic: A Twin Peaks Rewatch - Part 6

We’re getting to the point where a reluctance on the writers’ part to solve Laura’s murder is definitely creeping in...

S02E04 AKA Laura’s Secret Diary
In Which:- Leland is interrogated, a lot of business about a travel writer goes on and Audrey’s rescue is planned…

- The opening sequence is one that has always stuck in my memory for some reason - a slow pull out from a tunnel only to reveal that it is a hole in the ceiling material of the police station interview room. Ray Wise is absolutely great in this scene as he confesses to Jacques’ murder.
- Another in a long line of great bit parts this episode - Royal Dano as Judge Sternwood. Gives a pure Peaks speech to Leland about raising a glass in Valhalla.
- Josie’s back accompanied by some mysterious Asian men, one of whom appears to be wearing some sort of makeup. Is this sort of thing OK nowadays? I’ll come to that later when it comes back again…
- Josie and Harry are still a slightly boring and unconvincing couple.
- There doesn't seem to be much urgency about rescuing Audrey from a brothel. They know where she is and sort of amble around sorting out plans..

First Appearance:- Judge Sternwood
Cliffhanger:- Josie’s “cousin” beats Hank up in the Double R as a warning….

S02E05 AKA The Orchid’s Curse
In Which:- Donna plots to get Laura’s diary and Audrey’s rescue takes place…

- Donna is quite irritating in Season 2; this attempt to be edgy is just a bit laughable. She’s also pretty unpleasant - she lures a shut-in out of his house forcing him to have a breakdown then breaks in later trying to steal stuff from him. One thing that is quite surprising is a story about having sex as a 14 year old - not the sort of thing you’d expect to get past the censors on 90s TV…
- At this point, Cooper has been in town for only 12 days (so it works out roughly a day an episode) but it already feels like he’s part of the town.
- Audrey’s rescue takes place - there still doesn’t seem to be much urgency in the first half of the episode about going to get her.
- Traditional daft comedy moment - Andy covered in post-it notes and talking about “sperms”.
- At the moment, the only person who seems to be really driving the Laura investigation is Donna trying to get hold of the diary. It’s clear that Frost and Lynch are reluctant to finish off this storyline...

The Owls:- An owl can be heard hooting prior to the raid on One Eyed Jack’s
Lynchian Weirdoes:- Nadine with her lapsed memory and super strength
Cliffhanger:- As Donna and Maddy cower in terror, Harold Smith mutilate his face with a gardening fork.
